Packing tapes
Packing tapes are adhesive tapes specially designed for sealing shipping cartons. Typically, these are around 50mm wide, are equipped with a fast-adhesive and use PP, PVC or paper as a substrate. The latter is not infrequently provided with a thread in the carrier for even more stability. These so-called thread-reinforced packaging tapes can then withstand heavy loads despite being paper-based. Thread reinforcements are also used time and again in the area of wet adhesive tapes, which develop their adhesive effect by moistening the underside, which is equipped with starch. Sustainable packaging solutions
Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role these days. So it is obvious to focus on such a highly transitory item as packaging materials. While cardboard packaging, provided it is unprinted, tends to be sustainable, the situation is different for PP and PVC packaging tapes. The obvious solution is to replace the base material with paper, which improves the balance of the strip considerably. However, this solution leaves the adhesive, which is still not ideal from an environmental point of view. This is where the wet tapes come in, which rely on potato starch for adhesion but require moistening.
